The Ultimate Christmas Present

Author's Note:  This short fictional story is the Christmas morning of Kendra when she receives the best Christmas present ever. It's not what you physically receive for Christmas, it's family that counts. That is the most wonderful gift of all.

“Merry Christmas, honey bunchkins!” Mother told me, squeezing me in her iron grip.
“Merry Christmas, Mother,” I squeaked, “I’m choking!”
Mother released me and said, “Sorry, darling. So what did you want for Christmas?”
Well, as the song says, ”I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” but in my case I say “I’m dreaming of a car for Christmas.” All of my friends had gotten a car, but I just turned sixteen over the summer. I  hope I get a car!
“A car and Kammie to come home from college,” I replied.
“I know you miss Kammie. Come along, dear deer,” Mother exclaimed and then covered my eyes and led me to the car shed.
“Is it a car?” I asked.
“Yes!” Mother nearly shouted, “Open your eyes, Katie!”
She uncovered my eyes and before me sat a toddler car. It was neon pink with a Barbie license plate. The interior was many different colored flowers covered in hearts and flowers. The wheels were covered in ribbons and bows.
I noticed a shining key on the front seat. “What’s this?” I wondered, as I picked up the key and started toying with it in my hand.
Mother smiled and hit the car shed opener. “That was a mini joke,” Mother explained. “This one’s for Kallie. Here’s yours, Kendra.”
The shed door opened and revealed my ultimate Christmas present.
