The Teenager's Path

Author's Note:  This poem is about the journey of Zoey Redbird in the House of Night Series by P.C. and Kristen Cast. It's been amazing to watch Zoey grow and change into herself from the first book to the 10th. As a reader you can totally tell the difference. To prove her transformation, I have written an alphabetic poem about her. (Oh, and the letters after the Z stand for:  now I know my ABC's next time won't you sing with me.)

A young and naive teenager
Beautiful at sight
Continues to grow
Dances in a circle
Ever trying to break the loop
Fear grabs hold
Growth has stopped
Her doubts confirmed
In her mind she sees nothing special
Just needs to believe in herself
Kalona an enemy plays
Little old tricks on her mind
More enemies arise to defeat her
Nevertheless comfort is found
Open arms of loved ones like water wash way her uncertainty
Possibly and hopefully forever
Questions are answered
Revealed with true sight
Seen with her seer stone
To bear witness to horrible things
Upon her friends and family
Veracious witness stronger now
Willing and wanting to fight the enemy
Xiphophyllous leaves hang in the air foreshadowing
Yonder down her path is greatness that is yet to come
Zoey Redbird accepts the role of High Priestess and Queen
Now matured and grown up
Ichnograms made in her path
Kakorrhaphiophobic no longer like Emma in Once Upon a Time
Maugre both have come a long way
And matured into strong leaders
Nevertheless they still make mistakes
Though the ability to recognize them are more important
Without the help of friends and family
Yen for defeating evil opponents would only be a dream
So now that they are prepared
What's next?
More to come as the series go on . . .

To add to the poem, I also would like to include text evidence, because I couldn't exactly fix my poem to do so. In the book, Marked, Zoey is juvenile in the fact that she is mainly worried about popularity, the upcoming school dances and of course, her boyfriend Heath. When she arrives at the Tulsa House of Night, she learns about her powers.

Further down her path, she finds that continuing the same pattern of not standing up to her enemy, the school headmistress Neferet, is getting old. There is no way she will defeat darkness. Fear of not doing a good job as the leader stops her dead in her tracks. Neferet's partner, Kalona, has been getting into Zoey's dreams and messing with her mind.

Long time loved ones comfort her into believing that she will vanquish Neferet. Questions arise like who else is behind all of this, or what happened to the innocent who have been murdered? On a special trip to Europe, Zoey received a seer stone that has the powers to see old magick for what it truly is. Now that she has some closure, she has grown up and blossomed into a beautiful young woman. What will happen next?
